The Roma Donna of the vine tomatoes

Lans cultivates a large plum tomato of the Savantas variety - marketed under the 'Roma Donna' brand name - with an average weight of 100 grams. In practice the weight lies between 90 and 120 grams.

Roma Donna usually has between four and six fruits per truss, an excellent number from a marketing prospective. The number of fruits in each truss is lower in less favourable conditions; tomatoes from trusses with fewer than four fruits are marketed as 'loose' plum tomatoes.

Preference is given to the harvesting and sale of large plum tomatoes in trusses, although loose plum tomatoes are harvested and sold; these are then marketed in a different packaging. However the quality and flavour are identical.

These tomatoes are marketed under the Roma Donna brand name by Action Pearl Growers, the growers' association for the sales and marketing operations.
