The first Lans' branch in Zeeland

The branch at Nieuwe Dwarsweg 6, in Rilland, the Province of Zeeland, was formerly called Vesagro 1. In 2006 the branch was renamed Lans Zeeland. The first glasshouse Lans constructed in the Province of Zeeland, in 2003, is located at Nieuwe Dwarsweg 6. This glasshouse is equipped with 4000-lux assimilation lighting and screens that block 85% of the light emissions. The glasshouse, used to cultivate a refined variety of vine tomato - Lycanto - has an area of 5.4 ha.

In 2006 a 1.5 ha OptimaKas was completed at Nieuwe Dwarsweg, in Rilland. On the construction of this innovative glasshouse Lans once again took the lead in the tomato-growing sector.

This glasshouse is characterized by the absence of ventilation openings in the roof. Heat released by the sunlight entering the glasshouse is stored underground for reuse in the winter months. Lans expects to be able to achieve energy savings of 30 percent using this approach - and not just in the closed glasshouse, but also at the adjacent 5.4 ha branch!

Moreover the yield from this closed glasshouse can be increased by some 15 percent as compared to a traditional glasshouse. In opting for this design Lans will be able to make an effective contribution to the further reduction of CO2 emissions.
The glasshouse was commissioned on 25 March 2006.
